Special Event Accounting

This form is for special events such as an Old Time Square Dance or a hybrid contra/ECD Holiday Ball. Please tap the button below for more information.

Do not use this form for regular contra or English dances or a contra-only Holiday Ball.

Some dances might seem special yet still be considered regular for accounting purposes. Tap the button for details.

What is a Regular Dance?

For accounting purposes, a regular contra or English dance

  1. is advertised as a contra or an English dance and nothing else, and
  2. does not include a significant percentage of other dance types, and
  3. is essentially part or extenstion of our regular public contra or ECD series.

The dance may be somewhat out of the ordinary and still be considered a regular dance for accounting purposes. For example, it may

  • be an additional dance in a regular series, such as on a 5th Saturday or Sunday,
  • have a special theme such as for beginners or for experienced dancers,*
  • have a different admission price,*
  • be done to recorded music rather than a live band or vice versa,* or even
  • be done at a different location with different times and rent, such as when we're trying out a different hall.*

*To be noted in the Note field at the end of the worksheet.

In all of those cases, use either the contra accounting worksheet or the ECD accounting worksheet.

What is a Special Event?

A dance is a special event if it

  1. is not advertised as either a pure contra or an English dance, or
  2. does include a significant mixture of dance types, or
  3. is not essentially part of our regular public contra or ECD series.

Examples (not inclusive): all square dances, a hybrid contra / English dance, and an afternoon waltz workshop before a regular evening dance.

The special event worksheet is almost identical to the contra accounting form and instructions.

Only if you've not used the contra form, you must practice using the demo and read all instructions, especially on the second page, before using the Special Events form at a dance. Thank you!
