Miscellaneous Links

The Country Dance and Song Society is the national organization dedicated to supporting and promoting traditional forms of American and English song and folk dancing.

There is a wonderful explanation on the CDSS site of English and American dances as usually done in the United States.

Here's a link to David Smukler's Cracking Chestnuts articles, originally published in the CDSS News. "Chestnuts" refers to some of the old dances that are still favorites in many contra communities. If you are at all interested in the roots of contra dance and in exploring the changes that have occurred over time, we invite you to enjoy David's well-written articles. And don't miss David Millstone's background pieces, linked at the bottom of the Cracking Chestnuts page.
