Contra dancing is a type of American Folk dancing with roots in English. Scottish, and Irish traditions.

  • Contra dancing is done in lines of couples, women and men facing each other
  • A caller directs the dance
  • No lessons are required
  • If you can walk and follow directions, you can contra dance
  • Contra dancing is active exercise, so wear comfortable clothing like tee-shirts, shorts, skirts and tennis or dance shoes.

Live music always!
No partners or experience necessary!
Every dance is taught and called.

The Houston Area Traditional Dance Society (HATDS) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to organizing and promoting contra dance and other forms of traditional American dance in the Houston, Texas metroplex.
