Dance Weekends in Texas and Oklahoma
As the title suggests, this page is limited to Texas and Oklahoma weekends. Around the country there are many dance weekends and even week-long camps. The Country Dance and Song Society maintains a list of those at the CDSS web site and Charlie Seelig maintains an exhaustive list on contradancelinks.com. These sites are not always accurate so be sure to call or email before attending an out-of-state dance.
Houston starts out each year with Bayou Bedlam in February. Details at bayoubedlam.org.
Set for Spring, featuring English Country Dancing, is becoming an annual event. It is usually held in March or April. Details at setforspring.org.
When in Doubt, Swing! is the Dallas contra dance weekend. Details at nttds.org.
San Antonio Contradancers bring in national talent to celebrate the birthday of their group on the second weekend of May each year. Details on sacontradancers.org.
Flamingo Fling is Oklahoma City's weekend of contra dance that takes place in early June. Details at scissortail.org.
Fire Ant Frolic happens in Austin near Halloween every year. George Marshall and Wild Asparagus are coming in 2012. Details at fireantfrolic.com.
The year ends with Fiddler's Dream, the dream-come-true of Dallas fiddler Mimi Rogers. Fiddler's Dream takes place between Christmas and New Year's Day at Lake Texoma near the Oklahoma-Texas border. Details are on the North Texas website, nttds.org.
