Dance Weekends in Texas and Oklahoma

As the title suggests, this page is limited to Texas and Oklahoma weekends. Around the country there are many dance weekends and even week-long camps. The Country Dance and Song Society maintains a list of those at the CDSS web site and Charlie Seelig maintains an exhaustive list on contradancelinks.com. Check them out!

Houston starts out each year with Bayou Bedlam in February. The next Bayou Bedlam is February 18-20, 2011 and features Scott Higgs calling to House Red. Details at bayoubedlam.org.

Set for Spring, featuring English Country Dancing, is becoming an annual event. It is usually held in March or April. The next SFS will be hosted by Oklahoma City on March 11-13, 2011.

When in Doubt, Swing! is the Dallas contra dance weekend. The next WIDS will take place April 29-May 1, 2011. Details at nttds.org.

San Antonio Contradancers bring in national talent to celebrate the birthday of their group on the second weekend of May each year.

Flamingo Fling is Oklahoma City's weekend of contra dance that takes place in early June. Details at scissortail.org.

Fire Ant Frolic happens in Austin near Halloween every year. The fabulous Elixir with Nils Fredland will rock the house October 29-31, 2010. Details at fireantfrolic.com.

The year ends with Fiddler's Dream, the dream come true of Dallas fiddler Mimi Rogers. Fiddler's Dream takes place between Christmas and New Year's Day at Lake Texoma near the Oklahoma-Texas border. Details are on the North Texas website, nttds.org.

There are shortcuts to happiness, and dancing is one of them.
