What's Bayou Bedlam?
Bayou Bedlam is the Houston, Texas weekend of contra dancing, food, and friendship. It takes place every February and features nationally known bands and callers.
Every Bayou Bedlam features a Friday night dance, various workshops during the day on Saturday, a Saturday buffet lunch, a Saturday night dance, and a Sunday brunch and dance.
Bayou Bedlam is produced by the Houston Area Traditional Dance Society, a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation. For information about HATDS, the regular contra dances in Houston, or contra dancing in general, see the HATDS web site at hatds.org.
Help Wanted!
If you live in Houston, please help make Bayou Bedlam a success by volunteering a little bit of time over the weekend. See the list of opportunities in the sidebar on the schedule page.
Bayou Bedlam 2010
Join
us in Houston on February 12, 13, and 14th for the 16th Bayou Bedlam weekend!
Bayou Bedlam 2010 will feature Erik Weberg from Portland, Oregon calling
to the Latter Day Lizards.
Several
of us heard Erik call at the Northwest
Folklife Festival and decided on the spot that we needed to get him to
Texas. We think that you will be as
impressed with Erik's teaching and prompting as we were.
Our friends in Dallas brought the Latter Day Lizards to Texas
in 2007. Again,
some of us from Houston liked them so much that we wanted to bring them back immediately.
We sat on our hands and waited, but after a couple of years we just
couldn't wait any more. We are thrilled to bring this trio of illustrious
New England musicians to Houston. They will be joined by Ralph Gordon
on bass. Ralph has played with Fred Waring, Trapezoid, and many others.
Read more about Erik and the Lizards on the caller and band pages.
