We are thrilled to present, for the first time in Texas, the Notorious quartet: Eden MacAdam-Somer (fiddle), Larry Unger (guitar, banjo), Sam Bartlett (mandolin), and Mark Hellenberg (percussion and banjo uke).

Eden and Larry met at Bayou Bedlam 2004 and have been playing together ever since. They have toured extensively across the entire East and West coasts of the United States as well as to Alaska, England, and even India! In addition to solo concerts, they frequently work with orchestral ensembles, perform for folk and swing dances, teach workshops, and participate in musical film collaborations.

Mandolinist Sam Bartlett (Reckless Ramblers, Wild Asparagus, Stuntology expert) has been playing music since he was 9, beginning with ill-fated adventures with the jaw harp and drumsticks, and finally settling into the mandolin, tenor banjo, and still, indeed, the jaw harp. When he’s not on the road Sam is home with his family in Bloomington, Indiana, torturing them with banjo tunes and teaching his children new stunts.

Mark Hellenberg (Hotpoint String Band, The Groovemongers, The Sevens) has been playing traditional music for over forty years, beginning as a drummer in his father’s bagpipe band in the early sixties. He has been featured as a percussionist on over two dozen recordings including two Green Linnet releases by the Celtic ensemble, The House Band.

This is one hot quartet!

Shawn Brenneman

ShawnHATDS is thrilled to introduce Shawn Brenneman to Texas dancers. Although new to us, Shawn stays busy calling (and playing with her band, House Red) in Virginia and North Carolina. Shawn and Notorious have worked together many times, including at dance weekends in Juneau, Santa Barbara, and Vancouver.

When we asked Eden whom she would like to work with for BB09, Shawn was her first choice.

Shawn told us, "Part of my philosophy as a caller is to enhance the connection of the dancers to the music so the dancers can get a full musical experience. Notorious and I seem to work well together that way."

Shawn prefers to choose good dances, teach them simply, clearly, and quickly, call in a clear and timely manner, and drop out when possible to let the music carry the dancers forward.

We're really excited to welcome Shawn to Texas!

Peter Lamborghini

Originally booked for Swamp Stomp on September 13 (the day that Hurricane Ike landed), Peter Lamborghini will instead join us at Bayou Bedlam. Peter is one of Dallas's—and our—favorite callers. He'll will be working with Notorious at the Saturday afternoon session.

Evil Genius

Saturday morning's band will be Houston's Evil Genius. With Peter Suk on whistles, Diehl Moran on fiddle, Emily Dugas on drums and vocals, and Kendall Rogers on piano, Evil Genius is one of Houston's most exciting bands. They will be working with Shawn to help us Wake Up in ContraLand.

You!

The Sunday afternoon dance at Oxford Hall is one of the highlights of every Bayou Bedlam weekend. It's an open mic for callers and open band for musicians.

Musicians and Callers, bring your instruments and your cards. This is your time to shine!
