BB08: Callers

Carol Ormand

Carol

Our featured caller this year is Carol Ormand. Carol has been calling dances since the spring of 1990, and has called at dances, weekends, and festivals all over the United States (and once in Denmark!). She is on the Board of Directors of Folklore Village, an internationally-known regional folk arts organization in Dodgeville, Wisconsin.

Besides contra and square dancing, Carol enjoys dancing Morris, rapper sword, longsword, English country, and Scandinavian dances. She has written several popular contra dances (Jurassic Redheads, Kinematic Vorticity, and You Can't Get There From Here are a few), enjoys quilting, and is also learning to fiddle.

Joseph Pimentel

Joseph Before moving to Houston, Joseph was relatively unknown in Texas but very popular in the rest of the country. Since he's moved here, he's become as much in demand in Texas as elsewhere — for good reason!

Joseph will be leading a Saturday afternoon session of mostly-modern dances in the English Country Dance style, similar to what he did in his Saturday morning session at When in Doubt Swing. Those of us who attended that session know that we're in for a real treat!

"You have single-handedly changed our minds about English. We thought we'd never get it and could never enjoy it, but we are really enjoying this! Your directions are crystal clear, your energy is so positive — and you're funny, too! It's just perfect."
 — Paula and Alan Wright, Buffalo Gap Family Week 2002

Fred Todt

Fred Fred frequently attended Berea Christmas Country Dance School, which is where he first encountered shape note music. His comfortable confidence, strong baritone voice, and gentle guidance inspire experienced and reluctant singers alike to raise their voices in boisterous and joyful song. We're thrilled to have Fred leading the Saturday afternoon shape note session.
