No security clearances are required to enjoy Seattle's KGB. With fiddle, mandolin, guitar and piano, KGB creates subversive music, lulling the unwary with traditional New England contradance tunes, then jumping off into Balkan modalities, tango riffs and bluesy jigs.
Claude slides from growling grooves to impossible high notes on the fiddle. Dave creates percussive energy and dazzling riffs on anything with strings. Julie explores the emotional range of the keyboard from majestic to down and dirty.
KGB is
Julie King - piano
Claude Ginsburg - violin, concertina, viola
Dave Bartley - mandolin, guitar, cittern, etc.
Perfect 5th is one of Houston's most popular contradance bands. As does KGB, "P5" plays a variety of styles with a variety of instruments. Always eminently danceable, Perfect 5th will be providing the music for the Saturday morning session with Carol.
Since moving to Houston from the DC area, Kendall
has thrilled Texas dancers with his exciting improvisational
style on the keyboard. He plays regularly for contradances as a member of
Evil Genius, and for the English Country Dances in Houston as
a soloist. It's in this latter role that he will be appearing Saturday afternoon,
playing for Joseph's Mostly Modern English Country Dances session.
